Halloween is the one night a year where it's completely acceptable to eat as much candy as you want. But it's no trick. Those treats are getting a lot more expensive to make. WKRG News 5's Taylor Boisen enwraps why candy and chocolate prices are hauntingly high. This year, your Halloween candy might taste the same, but it's costing candy makers a scary amount more to make it. Just dipping some marshmallows. Chef Jule at Fairhope Chocolate has been in the industry for almost 20 years, and she says the cost of production has never been this high. It's made us be more creative. It's given us a bigger palette in the shop, but it is difficult. She tells us chocolate prices are frightening, hitting record n This started about a year ago. The majority of chocolate in this world is grown in Africa, and there was a problem with the production of the growth of the chocolate. And our chocolate went from $130 a case to now we're paying approximately $550 a case. But it's not just the cost of cocoa that's haunting. She says essential ingredients When a case of eggs goes from $8 to $2 to $12 to what not, it makes a big deal. It's very hard to set prices. There are times when we simply went to the store and there is nothing on the shelf. We couldn't get them from the distributor. Forcing a few changes in Chef Jules' kitchen to keep the magic alive without breaking the bank. We're balancing how we use the more expensive products with finding new and fabulous products that are more seasonal.
