The expansion of Targets Northern Campus has meant a migration of employees from downtown Minneapolis to Brooklyn Park. The addition of a couple thousand more people at the Target Campus is helping to fuel business in the area. In this week's Business Matters, we look at some of the growth. At Brooklyn Park's Park Place Promenade, a retail development off Highway 610 in Zane, the flow of business is steady. Pita Pit filled one of the last empty storefronts in this development when it opened up its restaurant three weeks ago. We did have pretty high expectations for this area and it's meeting those expectations at this point. Billing itself as a healthy eating alternative. Two chicken scissors please. The shop offers endless pita and salad combinations. You could have something for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day for the rest of your life and never eat the same thing. The reason Tyler Volkan and his family chose this location for their business has a lot to do with the Red Bulls Eye nearby and its campus of 3,500 employees. We have a small town next door to us. Having that 3,500 target corporate employees there is really going to be helpful in attracting other retailers. Brooklyn Park's Economic Development Director says Targets expansion is helping fuel interest in developing the 100 acres of open land nearby between Zane Avenue and Oak Grove Parkway. We've had interest from hotel operators and we expect hotels to be part of that mix of that acreage, other retail. There's been some pent up demand for the small shop type retail. We picked this location primarily because of the growth. Back at Pita Pit. They're held Pino Ranch right there. They spice things up with the deal for all target employees. We offer them free chips so they are welcome to come visit us at lunch and they'll get free chips every day. They're trying to encourage repeat customers and their banking on continued growth in the area. I think we picked the right spot for sure. Target owns 330 acres of land in Brooklyn Park. Meantime, the city has 1400 acres of open land left to develop in the northwest part of the city.
