Aaron's Alley is a shop of eclectic wonders just waiting to be discovered. Jewelry, minerals, incense, clothing, and everything in between!
In the summer of 1988, with a cart called Dyed In Heaven, you could find Aaron pushing around an assortment of goods at Charlotte Beach. Almost three decades later, you can find us nestled in the shopping district of Monroe Avenue, a place that welcomes all. We have an atmosphere you won't find anywhere else that's just waiting to be discovered. Inside, there's your favorite Grateful Dead apparel, tie dye, and we'll probably have Janis on while you're perusing our store. We also have gems and minerals alongside jewelry from local artisans and art of all kinds. We even sell tickets to local shows, so if there's a fun party happening, you always have an excuse to drop by and see us first! Above all, we're just a group of like-minded souls that love sharing local art and goods vibes with the people of Rochester. We hope you'll join us at the Alley next time you find yourself on Monroe.
I know it was a group of friends and I know that we said it should have his name in it and somehow Aaron's alley was born. My husband, my lovely Aaron Plunkett, way back in the late 80s, he decided that he really couldn't work for anyone else. He was going to tell every other business person how they should run their business. So he said, I got to figure out something for myself. And he says, I'm going to go and I'm going to sit at the beach down at Charlotte and I'm going to sell stuff and sit in the sun. I'm going to make a vending cart and I'm going to get rich. People don'take money to the beach. That idea didn't work out so well. So he thought, hmm, I'm going to go over to Monter Avenue. I'm going to plant myself and that was it. People just started to find where Aaron went. They would stop. Aaron was a presence in himself. He had an ability touch people and he didn't even have a clue. When Aaron passed so suddenly, the outpouring of the community was amazing. So due to that, it couldn't close the store. The one thing when were at the wake, I was And I knew there would be a lot of people there. But how they hurt, you would have thought they were his brother or his sister. He just had something that made everyone feel so special. Once they come through that door, they leave feeling better or more positive or just something just as more up than when they came in. And that has always been his philosophy. He said if someone bought something, that was the bonus. We have all of those lovely Grateful Dead and then jewelry. We do lots of local jewelry, jewelry, sterling silver jewelry, nose ring stuff. We do a lot of tapestries. I definitely think that this community helps all of the local type of businesses. I think that's a big thing about Rochester is that they are really into the local things and they want to give that support.
