The Wayside Country Store complex has been in operation since 1929 when Henry Ford owned and operated it. Our family purchased the property in 1975. Through the years the compound has been renovated and two new buildings were added. Currently the complex is home to numerous shops and businesses which attract customers from around the world. This historic building was erected in 1790 and stood in the center of Sudbury, Ma. serving as the town post office, general store and school. Its second story was used as a grand ballroom. Henry Ford purchased the building in 1928 and had it hauled by oxen to its present site at Hager’s Pond. A dam at one end of the pond accounts for the store’s slogan “Best Country Store by a Dam Site”. The building’s interior is still the same as when Henry Ford had it renovated. It was the first country store in the U.S. restored and reestablished. Located just minutes away from the famous Longfellow’s Wayside Inn, the store remains a nostalgic destination for families from around the world.
