At the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is the 588-acre King Gillette Ranch, designed in the 1920s for the safety razor magnate King Camp Gillette. The ranch is now owned and managed on behalf of the American people by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority in cooperation with the National Park Service, the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and California State Parks. The entrance to King Gillette Ranch is easy to find just south of the city of Calabasas at the intersection of Las Virginas Road and Mulholland Highway. The park is open from 8am to sunset. But the King Gillette Ranch is more than just a jewel nestled in the mountains.
