Pineapple Lily

Eucamous or the pineapple lilies are wonderful s They're easy to grow and today we're going to show you how to repot Eucamous Vandamuwii and we'll also have a look at a slightly larger growing variety which is called Eucamous sparkling burgundy. They're both treated in much the same way very easy to grow. This is our pot of Eucamous Vandamuwii. We'll remove the old foliage, tip it out and you can see that our original bulb has multiplied into about five or six. We'll remove most of the soil with our hands. The next thing to do is to put it on the ground, get the hose and wash the rest of the soil off. You can see that the bulbs are coming apart fairly naturally some of them will just pull apart easily others you will need to break off but that's okay it won't hurt the bulb. If you want to you can rub a little charcoal or other wound sealing material into the breaks but if you don't let these pots get too wet over winter you won't need to do that it's really not going to matter. We filled the pot with a good quality potting mix and it has some slow release fertilizer mixed in with it. The bulbs are planted with the roots down to sit them on the surface firm them in a little bit. We'll actually put four into this pot. Once the bulbs are in it'simply a matter of covering them with the potting mix and remember to fill the container right up to the top because you'll find that as you water this in that the potting mix will settle its way down into the pot. Now we're looking at a UKma sparkling burgundy bulb and to tell you the truth it's not in the best condition. The roots are fairly dry the bulbs are a little bit soft. We think we can bring it back to life if we plant it and water it in. When you're buying bulbs always try and make sure that they're in good condition. If you get bulbs that are In this instance we'll go ahead and plant it and hope for the best. We're using a deep pot we're going to plant this bulb a little bit deeper than the other ones because it's a larger bulb. It'simply going to sit down in the soil We'll water that one in and with a little bit of luck we'll have a beautiful sparkling burgundy pineapple lily flowering in s We'll wait a little while and we'll show you these in flower.
