Sandtown Millworks

Old-growth pine forests are all but extinct in North America. They were all cut down for lumber in the 1800's and early 1900's, to build cities like Baltimore. This incredibly strong material still holds up most of the city today. When buildings are demolished or rehabbed, that old lumber too often ends up in a landfill. Sandtown Millworks was created to reclaim those precious boards and to make them into something beautiful. We hope you enjoy our work.

This is the shop where something new comes from something old. Anything we want that has that character is before World War II. What he's talking about is wood, old discarded wood, rescued from demolished homes or businesses in Baltimore, materials that would otherwise end up in the trash. I was so focused to find some way to reuse that material. The material ends up at Sandtown Millworks, where some may see perfection, they see possibility. Whether it's a notch or a mortise hole or just some piece of character that speaks to what we started with. Hauling all of this wood is hard work and it's dirty work and many times death militant crews don't want to do it. That's why they'll call the team from Sandtown Millworks, they'll come pick up the wood and then turn it into a work of art. It's a lot of nail-pulling, honestly. A lot of moving l The results? One-of-a-kind furniture. Dining tables, coffee tables, desks, we do a lot of bookshelves. The showroom only shows some of what they do. Everything that is being built in the shop has a name attached to it. And that starts with someone coming into the showroom, us really understanding what they want, what they need. And they say it's pretty cool seeing something with the past, getting a fresh start in a new home. In South Baltimore, Megan Pringle WBAL TV11 News.
