Hi, my name is Annie Cox and I'm the owner of Ancox Design. How I got started interior design, basically my whole family is in the home building business and I actually rebelled my bachelor's degrees in political science and then after graduating I realized that I really do love design and I just gave into what we all do in my family. Actually I had a little bit of a leg up because my mother's an interior designer and I grew up with it. I saw it my whole life. Well my personal style with fashion is kind of funky and eclectic. I love mixing patterns. That's a huge thing. I love putting I've tried to incorporate kind of the unexpected in all of my designs. However, designing for the masses you have to really design to other people's taste but I still try to put my personal design spin on it in some way. Maybe just something a little unexpected that the client wouldn'think would go together. I think a common misconception is it's all expensive. Granted when you're designing a space or reimagining a space you do need to spend money but there are ways of doing it that aren'the Mixing pieces from target with something a little more custom so you're not spending money on a full room of furniture that's all completely brand new. A goal that I have for my business this year that's tough because I feel My top priority is making sure my process is easy to understand for my clients. I think that's the one thing that I've run into in the last year and a half of my business where I just really want to explain the process to the client. That really gets from A to Z quicker which is also a goal and making sure that they really understand what's happening. My favorite thing to do to practice self-care and maintain my balance would be to light some incense and have a glass of white wine specifically Savion Block. That's my favorite and that really just settles me down at the end of the day. What I did before I started in Cox Design was I worked as a bartender server but what I did with most of my time was I hosted and started a small art gallery in Seminole Heights years ago now called epoxy with three of my other great girlfriends Erin Hart, Sarah Feldez and Katie Magruder. We really wanted the community to have an art space that was completely free and we brought two artists together to do the shows and we often had musical artists come in and play and it was just such a really nice creative experience that was completely free. The reason that my past relates to my future is I would say I have always been an organizer, always wanting to be part of the community and the things that I've learned in that space working with other people, working with clients, working with artists, working with friends, it really taught me how important customer services and meeting people and having a relationship with them helps curate their space, curates their environment which is what I love to do, curate environments. The advice I give somebody if they're wanting to start their own business is first make sure you're completely passionate about what you really want to do and go all in because there's really no easy way, you kind of have to j There really needs to be that passion there because even though it's your dream job, there's days that are bad and running your own business you're the one that is in full control so there's only one person to blame but I would say head first, j
