When Nathan Taylor and J Martin opened Obelisk Home in 2008, they both had strong backgrounds in retail and home furnishings—Nathan had been doing design work and owned two retail stores in Texas, and J was a manufacturing representative for Sherrill Furniture Company. That experience—and their uncanny ability to keep a strong relationship going even while working together all day—made it possible for their home design empire to take shape. The two own a family of companies. BridgeBlue Sourcing Partners designs and manufactures home décor for major retailers and wholesale companies. Unleashed Life creates upscale, high-design pet bowls, beds, home accents, paintings and more; the line is distributed through North and South America, Asia and Europe. Obelisk Home, the company’s retail venue, offers services that include furniture, lighting, accessories, antiques, fabrics, art and design services. Obelisk Home is known for giving architecturally traditional homes a youthful energy and sophistication with their fresh take and trained eye. We artfully mix periods, styles and moods, bringing an eclectic mix to our projects and ever-changing merchandise. Our design services extend from concept to completion and are only limited by our client’s imagination. We can be instrumental in bringing our clients vision to reality. One of the challenges about beginning a relationship is what do you do with all of the stuff that you receive? Oftentimes people receive gifts that they In this setting we have masculine and feminine with the black obelisk and the books on collecting. One of the simple ways that a lot of people try to bring the masculine and the feminine together is brighter, more feminine colors. Adding decorative boxes and simpler, cleaner elements can help take the more feminine to a more masculine setting. In a feminine setting, getting books that are dedicated to some of the interests of possibly the wife, bringing in touches of black and gold and books that maybe are traveled or from the honeymoon. One of the very simple ways to add the masculine into an environment is a very simple sofa, adding pattern pillows, crocodile finish, honeycomb and a great wool plaid throw and then add in some great books that can be masculine or feminine or just black and white.
