Since its inception in 1949, the Bialek Corporation has been committed to providing superior services to the commercial and government healthcare and research industries in the Mid-Atlantic region. With its foray into the professional pharmacy market, then onto the medical supply distribution arena, and finally into healthcare, research and office furniture products and design, Bialek has demonstrated over the years, its unique ability to adapt to the rapid changes in its markets, while creating opportunities for substantial growth. After having built a successful chain of professional pharmacies, Bialek developed in the 1970’s what would become the largest independent medical supply company for physicians in the Washington metropolitan area. In 1991, Bialek further diversified its interests, while remaining committed to the healthcare market, by launching its healthcare furniture business, Bialek Healthcare Environments. In 1995, Bialek was given the opportunity to sell its medical supply division to a large regional distributor. And in 1997, after selling its last retail pharmacy, Bialek fulfilled its goal of devoting all of its time and resources to becoming one of the area’s largest and most highly specialized healthcare dealers.
Well I've been working ever since I was eight years old and I remember being paid twenty cents an hour to fill bottles and then I was raised twenty five cents an hour and I had to buy my own lunch. I joined the family business in 1978 actually, several years after I graduated from college. What we do at the Alley Environments is we design and sell products for workspaces. Our primary line is Herman Miller, we're very proud about that and we have two hundred other lines. I am extraordinarily passionate about the fact that you absolutely can have it all. You have to define what that means, you have to choose what's important to you at different times of your life. The three people that mean more to me than anything in the world are my husband and my two kids and I just wish I had a crystal ball and could have seen how well they turned out back when I was worried about leaving them every day and going to work. For me, part of being successful is being able to get back to our community. We are working on projects that give so much meaning to young people's lives, for example at Children's Hospital. The most important thing to me is to always look at the positive and because you can look at any situation either way.
