This space is beautiful, friendly, and welcoming. A lot of that is the volunteers who have two or three community members. At Sheridan, we distribute foods six days a week. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays during the day, and also Tuesday and Thursdays in the evening. It's a very warm and welcoming environment. It's very easy to get to right by the Sheridan Red Line, and several buses, including Irving Park. Volunteers get welcomed in our front door by our reception. That volunteer will kind of point you in the right direction, or where you can put your things away, check in, and make a name for it. Then we'll have a volunteer meeting. You'll get some updates and some announcements, along with learning what your role is going to be for the client-facing portion of the day, if it's a distribution shift. If it's a restructure, we'll be talking about all the different things we're going to be doing. Typically, we pair you with another veteran volunteer who you can shadow and learn more about the role so that you can feel confident when you're asked to do it in the end of the day. That's just what to do. Volunteers help us get the pantry ready and learn how to distribute food one of several ways, either having community members come in and have a shop or getting your food to go. Yep, folks can come once a month for all the food we have and want to meet for extra fruits and vegetables. In addition to our distribution shifts, we also have restocked activities. There are days when we have deliveries called fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, milk, dairy, all of the items that we want to distribute. We need to unload those vans and trucks with them on shelves or in our refrigerated food. Come volunteer at Sheridan Market, and through Saturday, distribution or restock, can't wait to see you.
