Target Store Oceanside

10 News begins with breaking news. Shoppers take cover after shots are fired inside an Oceanside Target. Well police tell 10 News the scary situation unfolded when a shoplifter was confronted by store security. 10 News reporter Rielle Creighton is joining us now live with these breaking details. Rielle? It was chaos and panic that has now turned into calm and business as usual. The store here is now back open even though it was that far right door that was covered in crime tape just a few hours ago. Many people though now coming here to shop who haven't a clue of what happened. Shortly after that shooting there were dozens of target employees standing outside the store closed. Everyone evacuated. We watched as police carried away evidence from inside the store. After they say a man was attempting to shop lift when a security guard tried to stop and detain him. He then fired several shots inside the store in the direction of that guard. Now this all happening at the front end of the target near the doors. No one was hit by the gunfire but shoppers certainly frightened one woman who was inside telling us after that first shot there was confusion but then came a second shot and it was terror as people began to realize there was someone shooting inside the store. There were people definitely crying It was I heard women screaming. I saw people She described fear. Many here believing there was a gunman targeting people inside the store. She says one worker ushered her and several others back to an employee area back employee area to hide. Meantime though officers are found out in this area searching for that suspect who they say fled away in a black BMW with a woman driver behind the wheel. We're live in Oceanside tonight.
