Well, tonight value city furniture stores are rushing to sell out their inventory after their parent company, American Signature, filed for bankruptcy. Meanwhile, some customers who place orders at the stores are learning they're out thousands of dollars. Annabelle Childers has details. Right now, a huge going out of business banner hangs on the front of this North Olmsted Valley City furniture store. It'something that was not there when Tom and Lorraine Moore, who are parents of a three news producer, ordered a furniture set at the store November 15th. It was a custom order, so we had to pay in full that day in order to make the order. Their receipt shows multiple items included in their $4,838 purchase and an estimated delivery date of February 13th. About a week ago, the Moors wanted to see if the furniture might be ready earlier, so Lorraine called customer service. I told them why I was calling and that my order n I said, oh. It was then in mid January, the Moors learned the parent company of value city, American Signature, had filed for bankruptcy on November 22nd. They were told they could file a claim in bankruptcy court, but they wouldn't get a refund from the company. It feels awful. I asked him, are they notifying customers about this? And he said, oh no, ma'am, there's way too many people to contact. They knew when they took my money on the 15th that I'd never see that furniture, yet they took my money And then they didn't even have the professional courtesy to inform us. The Moors have already filed a claim and they're considering more legal action. But until then, the family room they bought the furniture for remains bare. You're just like, oh, I guess we'll start over from square one now with they have our money, we have no furniture and The money part of it is painful, but the seed part of it is the part that bothers me from a business standpoint because I'm a business guy and I reached out today to American Signature for a comment. I'm still waiting to hear back. But right now on their website, they state that they are also not offering refunds to customers who place deposits on items that are now unavailable from the store.
