It was winter 2008 in Copenhagen when Søren Rose founded Søren Rose Studio. He was already an important part of the Danish design scene, a well-known entrepreneur, and a permanent jury member in the annual Danish design award. Today, the studio specializes in residential living through bespoke products design. The work is characterized by natural simplicity, strong personality and responsible quality.

My name is Soren Rose. I'm the principal designer of Soren Rose Studio. Well, I remember this is so many years ago. I was just a young man and a good friend of mine, who was a mill worker, told me that I had to go down and visit Blindes Arbeide shop in Copenhagen. I then realized that all the products were actually made by blind people and that the organization had a tremendous high sort of Denmark actually came from this tradition of craftsmanship and doing everything by hand and Blindes Arbeide has somehow kept this tradition alive. The process of manufacturing this dustpan takes us 25 minutes out of Copenhagen where the wood is locally sourced for the handle of the broomstick and it's taken to a small millwork manufacturer. They CNC all the pieces out and afterwards they turn and mill everything and hand sand everything. The metal part of the dustpan is basically made of zinc. You have to go to a metalworker. It's a little bit more high tech. They actually have a laser which will do all the cutting of the zinc. And afterwards it's manually bent into this curve that fits with the wood. And it was all about really having a minimalistic approach. So it's kind of just the natural shape of the curve of your hand by holding a tray. So we got rid of the handle instead of having a handle so that way it was easy to hold it and use the brush. Then everything gets assembled at Blindes Arbeide. They manually pull the horsehair in place, trims it and glues it on. And then the scale actually was perfect because it was fitting with the actual broom. So that way everything works together and you can hang it beautifully on a little hook inside your cabinet. And everything is social economic so it's not for profit. Everything is given back to creating jobs and creating new jobs and new opportunities for blind people. And basically it'sort of Because after all that's what they're all about. They want to create amazing products. Right now we've designed all these prototypes and we are completely done with the product development. And we'ready to set up the actual manufacturing. So I hope that you enjoyed watching the video and that you Because they do amazing work and they create amazing opportunities for blind people. Thank you.
