The Chamber's Business Leadership Awards recognize businesses that have made significant investments in supporting the region's economic growth. Katahdin Studio Furniture was established in 1997 by John Stass, who was working out of his home, creating music room furniture for some of the world's best known musicians. In the fall of 2000, John moved his workshop to the sixth floor of the Hill Mill, and in 2008, he doubled the size of his production space and added a gallery showroom. As designers and builders of custom, handcrafted specialty furniture, their work is commissioned by people worldwide, including such celebrities as Melissa Atheridge, Andy Griffith, and Steve Miller. Their work can also be seen every weeknight on the set of the Conan O'Brien Show.
