Karmal-Skillington was founded in 1996 by lifetime Tennessean Leigh Skillington in an old warehouse building on 8th Avenue South in downtown Nashville. Leigh started in the furnishings business as an art wholesaler in 1989, supplying fine art to dealers and designers throughout the South. In 1995 she opened a small gallery named Art Is Heaven Gallery in the once active 3rd Avenue downtown furnishings district. That exposure and success enabled her to launch Karmal-Skillington one year later with an emphasis on eclectic, high quality, one of a kind pieces-very different to most of what was available in Nashville at that time. The store experienced instant success thanks to good timing, a great location and a great staff and Leigh’s desire to amaze her customer’s with unexpected treasures they wouldn’t see anywhere else. Around 1999, a small vendor began supplying Karmal-Skillington with farmhouse tables made from old reclaimed pine. As customers begin to request special sizes, Karmal-Skillington custom table business was born. Years later, Karmal-Skillington's team of artisan builders and finishers led by Leigh Skillington, design and create one of a kind and custom, tables, sideboards, vanities, media cabinets, doors, coffee tables, beds and more for very happy customers. Kelly Dubbin, into your store, and to get you out there. Sure. It's Como Skeleton, and we're located at 2019 8th Avenue South. We have been at this location for 13, going on 14 years. We began specializing in antiques. We have recently kind of shifted gears, and now we're doing farmhouse tables built out of old pine and also out of cherry. The old pine is 300 plus years old. We also do custom paste pieces. Pretty much, you bring us a photograph. It's made out of wood. What a great place. I should notice this piece. It is awesome. So tell me a little bit about this. About this piece, we actually got from an importer about two years ago, a designer or a similar piece. Just It gets lots of attention. I think it's got a lot of potential for a bar. What do you think? It's beautiful. Oh, beautiful. The beauty for so many things. Absolutely. That's a photo. It's absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful. So this is one of our traditional farmhouse tables in a square. The good thing about Cornwall's Fillington is that you can pick your size, you can pick your finish. You can actually pick how rough you want your wood to be. The wood that we have now is coming from Pennsylvania out of old warehouses with their tearing down, flooring. Basically, you come in, you place your wood. We order the table. Sometimes it takes four to six weeks. We'll get it in. At that point, you can come down to our finishing operation where you can pick the smoothness. If you want a really rough end table, This is more of a smooth finish. We can go as light or as dark. We can do a painted finish. We can do a stained finish, anything. A benefit about our tables is that they are water resistant, so they're very kid-friendly. We also will restain our tables, or I'm sorry, re-finish our tables every five years if you purchase one from us. It is completely custom. When we say you get what you want, you do. Now tell me about what you think has to do with the panel on the side of the wood. That's two minutes away. My tiny room is F5. Absolutely. And then you can say, it's about four to five minutes. Yeah, exactly. If And also let us know what seating you want. There's other pieces that you want to wear. If you want to sideboard, if you want to crash, we can accommodate pretty much any size room because of our space. Do you also accommodate such a sideboard? Yes. Absolutely. And we do that quite often. Most of the time, people that do buy tables for their dining room will finish that up on the sideboard. And they also have a choice of getting any kind of chairs for their table. Any chairs, absolutely. We have leather chairs. We have a colster chairs. You can pick your favorite. We also have a great selection of wooden chairs. If you don't see the color you Don'tell me about it because I love it. Definitely. It is a tooled leather chair from Halicek. It's a great line that we carry. It's a commercial quality. So the last few, a very great old pond. A lot of times people will go to the cheaper room and buy more cost-efficient chairs that might last four or five years. This is meant to last for 15, 20 years. If you ever have an issue, bring it back to us. We will back it up. This is a beautiful chair. It goes well with our old pond tables, which I say is casual elegance. You can go as rustic as you want with their tables or you can dress it up with a beautiful leather chair Tell me about the legs. I noted how interesting the legs are.
