Hi, do Hi, I'm Dave Brodsky from Berg's Baby and Teen Furniture. The three most important things that Firmness is very important. You definitely want to have a firm mattress for your newborn baby. When the child gets a little bit older, and we'll define that as being approximately a year of age, you can introduce a little bit more comfort. In fact, they have mattresses on the market, which we call two-stage mattresses, which when you flip the mattress, it will offer a little bit more plushness on the reverse side and again a little bit more comfort for that slightly older child. But again, to reinforce, you definitely want to have a firm mattress for your newborn. The other thing that we want to consider is the weight of the mattress. You have mattresses which vary in their weight. There are mattresses that are made of foam. There are other mattresses on the market that will have a metal inner spring on the inside. Foam mattresses would generally be the lighter weight alternative. The reason that's important is when you're changing the linens in the crib, you're taking the sheets off, the mattress pads, or the baby has an accident. Because of safety standards, there's really no room to work inside of the crib. So you're physically going to need to remove the mattress from the crib to undress and redress, and then once again replace the mattress inside the crib. So having a lighter weight mattress is going to be that much more convenient. When it comes to structural integrity, we already touched on the fact that you'll have foam mattresses. You have mattresses that again are made with that metal inner spring coil unit on the inside or the core of the mattress. Foam mattresses or traditional foam mattresses generally won't provide as much structural integrity, especially along the edge of the mattress. When that child gets to be a little bit older and they start getting more active, standing in the crib, and they're j Now there's one more option I want to point out. You can get the best of both worlds. In fact, Naturepedic is one manufacturer that will offer a foam mattress which actually has an engineered foam core that does provide, and you can't feel this, but I can tell you that it's very firm along the edge and the side of the mattress, and will provide that additional structural integrity and still offer a very lightweight mattress which is appropriately firm. And again, those are the three most important things you want to consider when choosing a crib mattress. You want to have a firm mattress. You would prefer, I would recommend, having a lightweight mattress, and then also one that offers structural integrity. And I'm Dave Brodsky, and thanks for listening.
