We're here at the Plouis Art Gallery with a virtual gallery show tour of our March show which just turned into our April show for Lucinda Wood. So Lucinda, we're gonna video the work here and then have you talk a little bit about your process or whatever you'd Great. Well this is my L I actually didn't do it there. I did it from a photo I took in Nevada coming back from Montana. It had been a gray day with like snow and It was so beautiful with the blue shadows so this came from that journey. I'll go back to the beginning. This is called Tahoe Rhythms. I did this at Zephyr Point while on a women's retreat. Actually two different women's retreats and there was a tree standing over here on the left which is why you see these bars of light across the truck. That was probably the reason I did that painting because it was so well lit and fun with various rhythms, waves and the bark and light patterns. This is Claremont through. . . no this is winter and spring embrace. Claremont through Manzanita and I've always loved the colors of the pink Manzanita against the dark sort of a denim blue of the mountains in the distance and finally I had a chance to paint it a couple springs ago. Well the Cindy Year water work is always so impressive. There's very few artists that can capture the motion and the vitality of water Thank you. Well I actually So this is the Rogue River. Graham who's kindly filming this actually ran part of this rapid, not this particular hole which would be death. He went down this way but I sat over here and painted the white water right there because If you wait a little while it'll do that again. So that's how I paint white water and this is another bit of white water I painted in Montana while my husband was fly fishing. This is Rock Creek Rapids. My daughter's going to college out there so we took a little fishing and painting trip after we dropped her off. And this is right here in Pl This is near the Y. This is Spanish Creek looking upstream really close to where Indian Creek comes in. I did this last fall when the dogwoods were amazing. Usually dogwoods are about this color but I was lucky enough to find some that had the bold deeper reds. And there's big leaf maple there and oaks. Indian rhubarb sort of golden. It was kind of fun to have both the white water and the still calm place. If I can get both acts That is one of your most popular prints I think we've sold so far. It's one of my favorites. I also kind of And this is Thompson Lake which is a little lake between Bucks Lake and Lower Bucks Lake. And last fall I went up just as the aspens were returning and there was a bit of snow on the ground which is what these light blue patches are. So I really love the gold, the brilliant gold backlit against the dark water. And you can see the beaver has been very busy over here with the aspens. Some of which even have gold leaves on so And this is Long Lake which was in Caribou Wilderness. My family and I were backpacking there and I woke up and turned my head sideways and saw this fog lifting off the lake and immediately grabbed my paints and sat down to paint and let everyone else fend for themselves for breakfast because this was just so gorgeous. And this is blooming amidst the roar Spanish Creek. This was last spring when we had good high water. Usually the Indian rhubarb which I love when the bloom is in the white water. Usually it stands clear of the creek but this year as you can see it just barely cleared the water and some of them were just bobbing up and down with the stream but I've always been impressed by how they hang on and they continue to bloom in the midst of all that turbulence. It says something about wrapping your roots around a rock and how persistent they are to be able to bloom in such a place. And this I call treasure falls. It doesn't actually have a name. It's a temporary fall that happens whenever we get a lot of rain or snow. It's in the Feather River Canyon. It's near where a rope chair or what do you call those? It's one of those chairs that crosses the river. The miners used I guess. That's how you find the location. We've seen this Trinity Range. This is a little bit east of Pyramid Lake in Nevada. I think you can see it from Route 80. And this is the Falls at Arch Rock Tunnel in the Feather River Canyon. This is a year round stream. You can see it right before you enter that. I think it's the third tunnel. Arch Rock Tunnel. I sat right there and painted it. Finish the detailed stuff at home. The trees and things. It's a real pretty fall. And I This I painted last s It is the first day of the Walker Fire. I painted it along the Quincy Junction Road at that little bar in there. It's on the refuge. And you can see the peach from the fire that's burning. And this is a real challenge that I started enjoying painting c So you have to sort of get an idea what you're going to paint and then just put it down. And you look up and you paint whatever has happened next. Oh, the first thing though is to mix up all the colors you intend to use because you won't have time to mix. It's just such a fast process. So, All, And then I decide what I'm going to paint because by then the clouds will have moved around and you don't even bother drawing before you've got your paint mixed. And I don't believe I did draw on this. I just sort of may have, I may have outlined where the white was and then everything else was just spontaneous, which is different from what you've seen back here. Similar, this is this almost the same. They almost connect. This ranch and this ranch are the same. So this is shadow play on Grizzly Ridge. I enjoy how the clouds make these rippling shadows crossing the mountains. And again, I just painted that on location. Same spot under the porch of the barn so I wouldn't get sunstroke while it was painting. Also, it's really hard to paint in bold sun. Your paint dries really fast on your paper. It's kind of hard to see because it'so glaring. So if you can find something to give you shade over your work, it'so much easier. And this I did from Black Mountain Lookout. This was the first time I tried painting c It was so much fun. This is looking towards Skedaddle Mountains. So I called it Thunder Heads Over Skedaddle Mountains. That actually is the name of that range if you look on a map. When I was looking at the, there's a big dial in the lookout that's for estimating where fires are. And it's not an active lookout anymore. But they left that. And when I saw Skedaddle Range, I thought, I just have to paint that. So I can title a painting that. And then this is, I think it's called Honey Lake, which was probably dry at that point. But it caught the shadows of the clouds beautifully. These are two wave studies I did on a creek that runs through Mountain Meadows Camp. Our church goes up there every June, usually. And we had this sort of afternoon. So I usually hustle over to the creek and sit down and paint again. Just looking at the wave action and choosing a moment that I Doing it from memory. And then I do the next, So you can't really paint things right next to each other while they're wet. And these are fun because there's a lot of shade there, which makes richer colors in the water. I think hearing the water, the roar of the water and seeing the motion makes it more lively of a painting for me. If I were to do it from a photo, I think it would look stiff. Plus, photos don't really capture it the way I see it. They capture either a quick moment and you've got these little droplets in the air or they blur it so that you can't see all the colors that I Plus, who can find a better thing to do than sit by a creek that's, So that's just where I And here's another creek I was painting. This is in Montana again. My husband's a fly fisherman. So he was busy fishing for three mornings on this creek and I was busy painting. Got it nearly finished on location. It'sort of known for its rocks. This is called Rock Creek. Lots of beautiful granite rocks. And I think what caught my eye was this balancing set of logs and the shadow that they cast. So, and the way it kind of echoes the shape of the shadow and rock. And this is Maiden Hair Falls. I just love these falls which I actually discovered are five finger falls but they look very similar to Maiden Hair. So that's what I named the fall. I don't believe it has a name but it is one of the mossiest falls I've seen in this area. And it was a beautiful place to paint. And this painting is Gold Lake. It's the one in Lake Spacen. My family was camping there and this is one of the windier places I've ever painted. It was a challenge. I finished up at home but did the trees and the distant mountains on location. And it was kind of very slim peninsula. So that's what I named it. And this is Sierra Butte's. This one has soul but we do have prints. It was a little bit of a hazy day and Quincy. There was some smoke. So I went up to Lake Spacen which was a little clearer but you can sort of see the distant part of Sierra Buttes is a little bit paler than the near part. Probably more exaggerated because of the little bit of smoke in the air. This is a place where my family has gone to go j So I have fond memories of these boulders over here. This is another painting I started while my husband fished. This is Long Lake Calm. When we first got there in the morning the lake was mirror still. This is in Lake Spacen. And because of how still the water was you got this mirror It was very fun. Makes all these geometric patterns. Well thank you to Gram Shea, our videographer, and Lucinda for the commentary.
