The Red Knot is a small migratory shore bird who undertakes an amazing migratory route from the tip of South America up into the Arctic Circle. One of the few stops they make on their journey includes the beaches of Delaware Bay, an estuary that offers a feast for migrating shorebirds. While on the beach shorebirds never stop moving. They move up and down the beach on their tiny feet in pursuit of food. Scattered amongst the red knots are a gaggle of other shorebirds, but the red knots really stand out. Horseshoe crabs have been around for millions of years, but the relationship between this crab, horseshoe crabs have become popular as fish bait and for medical research.
