You Design It, We Build It!
In 1998, three college friends established The Sofa Company, a local Los Angeles based sofa specialty shop with a unique concept in “You design it, we build it!”. Jim, Peter, and Nick's goal was simple enough - to build a fun, simple way for residences' throughout Southern California to customize upholstery products that would fit their homes and lifestyle. Now, more than 15 years later, The Sofa Company manufactures its own designs and models straight from their central headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles. This allows each personalized sofa to be designed by the customer and then built and delivered locally in a quick and easy turnaround time.
Here at the sofa company, we have many different types of back options for all of our sofas. The most popular type is our fitted back pillow. The reason we call it a fitted back pillow is because the cushions appear to fit the back of the sofa. We have many different types of fitted back pillows, but our most popular is the square box no T back pillow. It's very easy to identify because it is the shape of a square or a rectangle. We refer to it as a square. And the stitching is what we call a box stitch. And it's very easy to see this because the box stitching, it makes the shape of a box. So it's easy to identify. The reason we call it no T is because some of our cushions go over the arm of the sofa, which we refer to as a T cushion. So since the cushion here, the back pillow doesn't go over the arm, we call it no T, so the factory knows how to make it. The square box T back pillow fits over the arm, so it has a very consistent full look. The way to tell, again, what type of back pillow you're working with is the shape, square, the stitching, box, and then the T because it goes over the arm. Another type of T back pillow we offer is the round box T pillow. As you can see, this pillow has a rounded shape and it goes over the arm Here we have an example of our angle box back pillow. You don't have to specify if this is a T back pillow or not because the angle shape is not compatible with the T back pillow. You can also see that this is a box type pillow because it has the box shape due to the seam placement. Just Again, you don't have to specify T or no T when dealing with angle cushion because it's not compatible with the shape that goes over the arm. Another one of our fitted back styles is our round single T. Just First you have the round shape, then you have the single seam, and then you have the That goes over the arm. Here we have an example of our square single no T back pillow. You can tell that it's a square because it'straight up and down and flush with the arm. Single refers to the seam. A box seam, as you remember, has two. A single seam has one. Single seam is also some kind of times called a knife edge seam. So, square, single, no T. Scatterback pillows are very distinguishable because they are the only type of back that are made up of multiple pillows versus fitted cushions or having the frame padded so it's all built in. Scatterback pillows typically consist of about four pillows on a sofa, three on a love seat, two on a chase or large chair, and one on a chair. It doesn't matter how big or small the scatterback pillows are, they can all be the same size, they can be different sizes. You would still consider them scatterback pillows if the back consists of multiple pillows versus fitted pillows. Our final type of back style is called the type back. The type back is easy to recognize because the frame actually acts as the back pillows, so to speak. The back is padded in a way that makes it much more comfortable for seating than another style if you, let'say, took the back pillows away and just leaned against the frame. The type back style offers a very clean, minimal look. It's really good for people who are looking for a really firm back, for really good back support, and it's also good for commercial projects. Without a lot of loose cushions around, people don't have to worry about the pillows getting up and walking away.
