Hello, and welcome to Virtual Back to School Night. My name is Thomas Mendiel. A little information about myself. I started teac I received a bachelor's degree in literature from William Patterson University. I went on to pursue a master's degree in English literature from Nova Southeastern University. I am currently continuing my education through online classes. I am also currently the head football coach for Cliffside Park Two courses that I teach currently are English 1 and English 2. English 1 is designed to impart a varied and substantial experience in a variety of literary genres. Some of the materials that we cover in t Currently, we are working on short stories, and our next unit of study will be of Mysemen. In addition to those pieces of work, we also study vocabulary, grammar, and composition. One of the main goals is to develop the student'speaking, listening, and critical t For English 2, the literature we study covers short stories, poems, novels, and a focus on literary elements and analysis. Currently we are working on poems and analyzing and writing different types of poems. We will move on to the Great Gatsby and the Crucible over the next couple of months. One of the main goals in English 2 is to read and comprehend the text and supplemental readings w Classroom and student expectations are to give you best effort w Students are expected to attend class unless the parent or guardian contacts the attendance office. Attendance for each class is taken daily. Students should stay in contact with myself through emails, w Virtual learning should be taught in the same manner that we teach a typical school day. Appropriate behavior is expected both online and in the classroom. The expectation is that students stay active both in class and ask appropriate questions. Lastly, when students are virtual, they are to have their camera on at all times. The grading policy for English 1 and English 2 is that homework and classwork accounts for 25%, quizzes vocabulary and written responses accounts for 25%, Newzella, nonfiction reading and writing accounts for 25%, and assessments and projects with a research paper also accounts for 25%.
