Changing the way Athens buys furniture!
The building was built in 1954 and my grandfather and grandmother started Betty and Liz Parker. In the photo my grandma is sitting on the right and my grandfather Lewis is sitting on the left. In the middle is my dad and my uncle. So that would be the first and second generation and I'm currently a third generation. And over the years it started in this building and we've started at 10,000 square feet and we've continually added on to where we now have 65,000 square feet of showroom space with over 100 different manufacturers which would include the accessories and fabric lines that we carry. Many of our lines are made in America and family owned companies. So over the years as we've been building these relationships with our vendors we've been careful about quality and construction and design but also we've tried to layer our company with many different price points to fit many different needs along with many different designs. So if you wanted traditional there would be many price points there. If you wanted contemporary there would be many price points there. If you wanted French, same thing all the way through. And with the help of our design staff, most of them have design degrees that we provide a service at no charge that would come to the house to make sure that people don't make mistakes. Whether it's your first house or your second home, we want to make sure that the design fits the house, the scale is correct, the colors are correct and that's how we produce repeat business from happy customers. People that visit those homes see that and you can tell when it's professionally done and when it's not professionally done. So if I go back in our history and you look at that picture of my grandfather, my grandmother and my dad and my uncle, you can see that my grandfather has turned to the side and not looking at the camera and the way that turned out was he strongly did not believe in advertising. He believed that furniture sold itself and you take good care of your customer and you provide a good product and you don't need to advertise that word of mouth will take care of that. And today that has sort of passed through, even though I'm sitting here on TV, we retain our customers and we set a bar that a lot of people strive to reach. The true value of a piece of furniture is not necessarily what you pay for but the use you get out of it. The reason why we've merchandised a store with product made from the United States is for that purpose. I won't put my name on a piece of furniture in the store if I can't promise that it's going to last for years. And so it would have been very easy over the years to have brought in some of those other lines that are a little cheaper, that don't last and don't hold up to normal use. So we've definitely gone that other direction and we're very proud to say and I don'think many of our competitors can say that 80% or more of our furniture is made here in the US. When you're shopping for furniture, this needs to be one of your stops and you need to see what we're about. You need to see what locally owned Made in America product is. You need to know what good service is. You need to know what good design is. And if you walk in here and don't see that, please call me and tell me. I will pick up the phone. I will answer your questions. I'm here. My name is in the building. We are here to help you.
