Designing a beautiful way to live.
SINCE 1936, Colony House was one of the most established and respected companies in the furniture industry. It's reputation for style and quality married with an incredibly talented staff was second to none. This hands-on family business spanned three generations. The founder, Mr. James Diffee, first got his taste for the world of furniture while working for the Tomlinson Furniture Company. In 1936, he purchased the Morris Trading Company and established a consignment furniture business in Washington, D.C. The Washington Trading Company quickly grew into a full service furniture provider and Colony House was born. Colony House's first location opened its' doors in 1937. The store was located at 4244 Connecticut Avenue in Northwest Washington. The original façade was designed to reflect the historic Raleigh's Tavern in Williamsburg, Virginia. This first location began a tradition of fine quality reproduction furniture that still sets Colony House apart from the competition today. Unfortunately, in order to make room for Washington's new Metro transit system, the Connecticut Avenue location was closed in 1975. In 1957, the Arlington location opened and offered Northern Virginia its first high-end furniture retailer. Over the years, Colony House has expanded several times as need for quality traditional furniture in the Washington Metropolitan area has grown. The Arlington location now displays three gorgeous floors of fine furnishings and exquisite room settings. Colony House's staff is one of the most talented and experienced in the area and offer extensive interior design services. Active family involvement, coupled with strong customer service and a dedication to making sure that each visitor to Colony House enjoyed the personal attention that kept bringing back clients generation after generation, and ensured that the tradition of integrity and fine quality you have expected from Colony House Furniture
