Scan Home was founded in 1983 by Carl and Barbara Propes. A successful container sale in the summer of 1983 lead to financing to open a 3,100 square foot store in early 1984. Barbara and Carl’s children, Lindsay and Alex, were born into the business and often played in the store while they were growing up.Lindsay recently received her Master’s degree in International Politics from New York University, and Alex will be graduating from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in May of 2010. Our Mission Scan Home was founded to bring affordable Scandinavian furniture to Alaska. Over the years this mission has expanded to include affordable contemporary furniture from many sources around the globe. But the basic mission hasn't changed. At Scan Home you will still find contemporary designed furniture, much of which is at moderate prices. Our Team No business is successful without a team of motivated and professional employees. Over the years the business has been fortunate to be able to attract and retain some terrific employees. Our Customers No business can succeed for very long without the support of loyal customers. Within this framework we do showcase some more expensive items for our higher-end clientele, and some less expensive furniture for our customers with more modest budgets.
