Welcome to Furniture Medic- Onsite furniture repair.
This is Gary Atencio with CNTV and I'm here with Bob, one of the owners of Furniture Medic, one of the largest restoration and furniture repair in the nation, is that correct? Yeah, that's right. You also said they're even pretty much in different countries right now. It's international, US, Canada, most of Great Britain, some in Australia and Japan as well. Well we're here at one of the work areas where Bob does a little bit of his more extensive work. Normally most of the time he's out on location throughout Denver, taking care of furniture, possibly right there in your own residential home or possibly in commercial locations. Bob tell me a little bit about everything Sure. It has to deal with wood, so including furniture, minor upholstery repairs, those kind of things, but some things people often don'think about, cabinet, refacing, refinishing, floor, hardwood floor repair, anything along those lines, construction related, move related, insurance damage, fire water, smoke, those kind of things. You name it, a little bit of everything. Let'start off first of all with cabinets. When you're talking about cabinets, people basically, their cabinets are looking a little bit shoddy, possibly you get some different furniture and they want it to match. You do that type of thing with cabinets. Tell me about the cabinet work. Yeah, there'several things you can do from just kind of freshening in the mop and putting a new finish on the top of it and you Fantastic. So basically you're offering an affordable alternative for people out there instead of going in and basically buying some new furniture or basically having to go out and redo your whole place. You can take the existing what you've got right now. Imagine that works really nice for specialty pieces, for pieces that you just can't go by on the shelf anymore. Tell me about that. Right. So a lot of folks around here have custom made cabinets. It'd be hard to get something to put back in there, but we can use a veneer over the top, put a brand new door, change it from oak to cherry or any of those kinds of things for people. Excellent. So if you're out there may have a piece of furniture, especially antique, tell me are Sure. We can do everything from whatever is going to best for that customer, whether we keep the original finish on there and use solvents and those kind of things just to make it all new, not affect the original or sometimes they'll choose this is damaged so bad. We just start keep the piece the same, but do everything new, refinish those kinds of things. Fantastic. Also as far as doors go. I mean people need their doors redone or possibly matched up to the rest of the house. What about that? That's a real common one as well. It's dry here in Colorado so that exterior finish gets after a few four or five years. Finish is flaked off. We can come in, do the side lights, do the door, make everything look new again. You make it real convenient for people because basically some of those items you could bring into the shop and I'm sure extensive work needs to be done. That's what you end up doing. It is really nice because you can go on location, which is great for the person because you show up at their door, take care of everything they need right there. Let me ask you because you're working on location a lot of times in residential areas. Tell me about the substances that you use. Are they safe for the family and that type of thing? Yeah, that's great. Thanks. I use water-based products so it's very low odor. The solvents are minimal so that you don't have to worry about all those odors and things going around the house, the kids, those kind of things. 90% of the work I do is on site. I can go in one trip, take care of what needs to be done. It is convenient. Let'say it's a business with a big conference table, it's not easy to get those out of there. We can refinish it even on site. Just about everything can be done right there. Absolutely. Some things you can't get out Tell me about that. Sure. I think moving companies hire us because they ding stuff up and whether it's the hardwood floor or the banister and we can come in and do the fixes right there on site. You talked a little bit about water. I'm sure water is one of the major damaging items that you have out there that basically cause havoc on a lot of furniture and whatnot. The basic water stain on top of a table, is that something That's a real common one. We do it all the time. Usually fairly easy fixes. Water damage from a fire, the main damage that comes is the fireman come in to put out the fire and all the water that's used after that. All those things can be addressed with the work that we do. And the infamous white hot spot. Sure. Pizza box on there. Yep, we can take care of it. Okay, perfect. Excellent. Let me ask you also, As far as the floors go, is this something that if you got a floor that's not looking good, got some gouges in it, some scuffs in it, tell me about that. Sure. Again, moving company is a normal thing where they drag the staple box across the floor or those kind of things and we can come in and without having to replace an entire hardwood floor we can do touch ups and fills and get it taken care of for. Excellent. That sounds great. So, they go and get themselves, let'say in their bedroom they've got a whole set and let'say they find something else out at a yard sale, maybe find it somewhere that would look really nice with their set but the colors don't match up. What do Come in with your swatches and what? Yeah, we're one of the few companies around, lots of mom pop shops do these touch up things. We can do a lot of color matching and that's a great example. Whether it's for instance a fire and one cabinet burns, I can get that matched up and they don't have to replace all the cabinets or as you're suggesting you find a piece, you just want to have it blend in with the rest of your furniture, no problem. Perfect. So, you do the dressers, what else is something, probably your fireplace mantles, is that something that Yep, really anything that's wood, anything in the house or the business that's wood we'll take care of. And once again, these guys come straight out to you. They will bring it back to their shop here if it needs some extensive work and that type of thing. But otherwise, All the way from your floors, all the way to your banisters, to your mantles, we're talking about dressers inside of your home and when you start adding it up, you start realizing there's quite a few things we have wood in our home. Yeah, there is and we can take care of the doctors that make house calls for you. That is fantastic. Folks, you heard it right there. I'm going to basically talk to them a little bit more and we're going to put the website at the bottom of the screen because basically that's your first step. Take a look at some of the before and afters. Take a look at a lot of the work they've done. They are nationwide. Basically, they are the doctors that go inside of your home and take care of all your wood needs and they'll take care of your phone n Give them a call and Bob will come out and take care of you. Thank you, Bob. Great, thanks Gary. You bet. This is Gary Atencio with CNTV and if you don't know, now
