Salvation Army - Richmond ARC

Since 1885, the Salvation Army ARC in Richmond has been helping men rebuild their lives, find spiritual direction, and become socially responsible.

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Richmond has been serving men in need since 1885. We operate a 81 bed facility in the heart of the city through which we house, feed, train, and educate individuals to become more socially responsible. Each man is given a job through their Work Therapy to learn job skills, to be retrained to handle responsibilities, and to gain self-confidence. The ARC is completely funded by donations and the proceeds from our Family Stores. When donors utilize our donation boxes or call in for a donation pick-up, those items are processed by the men at the ARC warehouse facility and then placed in the Family Stores for sale. These proceeds are the primary funding the ARC receives to house our men, to assist them in their challenges with substance abuse, and to help them rebuild bridges that would promote social responsibility.

I'm really excited about what's going on at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club. We serve ages 6 to 18. I'm with a myriad of different programs, arts and crafts, health and life skills, career, education, sports and recreation, as well as morality and values. All these programs together help to build a kid'spirit soul and body. One of the great rewards for us at the Boys and Girls Club is to see a young kid come in, join the program, go through all of the different opportunities for them, and the culmination of it is actually choosing a youth of the year. And this year we have a wonderful youth of the year. The club introduced me to sports If it wasn't for the club I wouldn't be captain of the varsity and football team. Or if it wasn't for the club for the Power Out program I wouldn't be part of the all academic team for two years straight. And I also made the all academic team for the century. I've been going to the club for about two years. My favorite activity is going in the gym with Mr. E. Swap me because we play different games and have a lot of fun. Something I Allen taught me how to swim when I was eight years old in the s For young people who aspire to master a musical instr Since its launch in 2007 the school has afforded participants from the Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army Corps and local schools the opportunity to try their hand at the keyboard, guitar, percussion and brass instr Without the Salvation Army many of these youth wouldn't experience these opportunities. And we're certainly proud of those programs however the Salvation Army does so much more. Throughout the years the Salvation Army has extended a handout to those needing a hand up. These shelter services are provided for men, women and children, providing food, counseling, day care and job placement assistance for those struggling with permanent housing. Case management is provided to every resident focusing on determining what factors have contributed to their need whilst also providing the assistance that will move them progressively from homelessness to happiness. I came to the Salvation Army after I lost my job. I got a victim from my home and it was me and my daughter. They helped me out where no one else would. They saw me things that nobody else did. It was an awesome program. I got a great case manager and excellent support from the staff. It means a lot to have something The Family Services program provides food, clothing, furniture, rent assistance and utility assistance for individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. There are a n The uniqueness of the Fox Holiday Socks program is that it fills an existing void. Children certainly want to receive a toy or an item of clothing on Christmas morning, but it's the unique gifts that come as a result of that stocking that make this program so special. Well, And so the weather program is set up is simply we distribute empty stockings and folks fill them and return them to the Salvation Army or one of our designated drop off areas to distribute to the children for our toy shop during our toy shop distribution. We pair up once again for the Angel Tree program. There are multiple locations all across Richmond right now where you can pick up a child's name and help make sure that they have a Christmas this year. Captain Vicki Lusand is with the Salvation Army and you're here tonight to basically touch on a couple of things for us. The first is the convenience of this program. How easy is it to adopt a child? It's very easy. Our Angel Tree is manned by volunteers here at the mall. The volunteers come from the Tri-City area surrounding Petersburg and there are churches and other organizations. All you have to do is come out to the mall and select angel. The volunteers will help you if you need help. We hope to supply angels for 20,000 children this year. Okay the deadline is December 30th. You bring the unwrapped gifts back to the location where you chose them and hopefully we get all that this is our this year. Absolutely. Captain thank you so much for joining us tonight. We certainly appreciate it. All right make sure you stop by any of the various locations that are gracious enough this year to be hosting the Angel Tree program and make sure that you make a difference in a child's Christmas and lifetime of memories. For a list of the locations of where the Angel Trees are this year I'll send it back to Hi I'm Andrea McDaniel at the JCPenney's at Regency Square where the angels are waiting on the tree. We have about a week left and we know times are tight but the Salvation Army who has been handling the Angel Tree project for years now it's been around for a long time. You can count on them to get it done. The Salvation Army has a long proud history of service to the needy in Central Virginia from the donut to disasters from shelters to services. The Salvation Army is committed to doing the most good for the most people in the most need.
