Fane County Habitat Restore harvests usable construction materials from homes and other buildings. Materials are donated by generous homeowners, contractors or suppliers and processed by tireless volunteers. I opened this store up in September of 2001 and the idea was to save material from the landfill, which we've done. We've saved over 2,500 tons from the landfill, which is phenomenal. You learn how to pull floors, you learn how to pull windows, you learn different grades of wood. So for me it's been an incredible learning experience. It's almost spiritual knowing that the floors, the desks, all this material is going to be used by someone afterwards. I've had the pleasure of salvaging something out of a house, bringing it in here, having it put out on the floor and see a delighted customer buy it and walk out of the door with it. That's really a kick. We've had customers who've been so delighted with the results of what they've bought from us that they've taken pictures and then come in with thank you notes or with thank yous and shown us what they did with our product, which really delights the volunteers and staff. I understand that they do a lot to reduce the amount of construction materials that you end up in landfills, in addition to providing affordable housing for members of the community. All the proceeds that are raised from the sale of these materials will be used to benefit future homeowners for habitat for h We have around 80 to 100 volunteers here at the Re-Store, which is fantastic and it's pretty unusual to have that high a n They help really keep this store so organized and there's no way we could without them. I've never worked with people who've got such devotion to their work and who work so hard. The excitement that people see when they come in here, even if they don't buy, Habitat homeowners are given the opportunity to work at the Habitat Re-Store to fulfill their commitment to contribute toward the construction of their own home. The advantages of coming to the Re-Store have given me an opportunity to buy a house and build a house and it's going to give many more families that same opportunity. Some of the money raised at the Re-Store that people donate goes back into Habitat for H One of the unexpected side effects of the Re-Store is that our community of volunteers has created an atmosphere that's a lot And when customers come in here they feel it, they enjoy it and it makes them comfortable and happy to be here. I wouldn't have a home, my kids wouldn't have their own bedrooms if it wasn't for this opportunity. Habitat just did a big gift for me. I never imagined one day I would be in my own home if it wasn't Habitat. Habitat.
