WE ARE OPEN for FOR SHAVE ICE once again!! Come and enjoy one of the oldest buildings and locally run mom and pops shop located in historic Haleiwa Town!
Aloha and Welcome to the first 808 blog and in this first episode I wanted to share a very special place with you guys that I have a few secret spots that I love to bring them out to out here and I just wanted to take a moment and share that with you. Haleva, the gateway to North Shore. The historic town was founded in the late 1800s and is known as the surf capital of the world. Located on the opposite side of Oahu from Waikiki, it's hard to not feel at home amongst the cozy streets lined with local shops, charming art galleries, and of course delicious food trucks. One of my favorite spots that I always recommend to people is tucked away off the main road but you cannot miss it due to its colorful decor and quaint atmosphere. If you're ever in Haleva you have to make a stop at Aoki Shave Ice in general store. Aoki's got its start in the 1930s when members of the family came back from Japan with a Shave Ice machine and opened their own shop. The family officially opened their business in 1981 right across from where they currently reside. Moving to this location in 2017, the current owners are the fourth generation of Aoki to produce Shave Ice in Haleva. So the texture, the mouth feel of the ice here at Aoki's is amazing. They make all their flavors in-house. It'so good. The mochi really sets it off texture wise. If you're coming and you want a true Shave Ice experience, I highly recommend Aoki's. It is my favorite spot out at North Shore if I'm coming to just hang out and take a break from life. They always treat me I love it so much. Customers love it. It is an amazing place. Come by, say hi, and definitely just take a second to enjoy yourself. After enjoying some Shave Ice, you have to stop in at the general store which is one of the oldest buildings in Haleva. The building was originally built in the late 1890s and is now a great place to grab some gifts to take home with you to remember your time on island. But the main reason to go inside is for the homemade ice cakes. These homemade treats are vanilla ice cream mixed with Aoki'signature flavors and they are so good that I have made myself sick off of them. So if you're ever out near North Shore and you want that sweet treat at a place where you feel You have to go to the general store, get some Shave Ice, get some ice cakes. They are amazing. You will not experience anything else Thank
