Boston Store

Boston Store has been a Wisconsin institution for generations. I really The Boston Store, whether or not it's utilized often, is kind of a staple downtown. And these are tough times for Boston Store's parent company, Bonton announcing Thursday that it will close 15% of its stores nationwide. Next year, 40 stores in all. I am not surprised. I think every major department store in the last six months has announced that they're closing stores, but which stores this time? Bonton has 22 stores across Wisconsin, a few Yonkers locations, but most are Boston stores, including five in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties alone. Miller says shrinking demand could put at least one of those five on the chopping block and there's not enough demand for that level of concentration in this market. Milwaukee is also one of two headquarters sites for the company with hundreds of employees here, and Miller says those in the corporate offices may be concerned about the impact on local shoppers. I think there's going to be some stores that aren't here six months, 12 months from now as the sign in the window suggests Boston Store shoppers will now just wait to see which stores pack up and go in Milwaukee.
