Little Blackbird Bakery

My name is Whitney Layton and my business is Little Blackbird Bakery. So I came up with my business name when my grandmother passed away a few years ago. I had started my business and I didn't have a name yet. And so I was given her Little Blackbird Pie Bird by my aunt and my cousins when she passed and it just kind of hit me. This is what your name is supposed to be. This is it. So it just clicked for me. Something that separates me from other bakers in the area are I specialize in Naked Cakes which is similar to the style. This is a nearly naked cake. I've been doing the style for many years now and at first it's kind of taboo with a lot of other bakeries since it's not technically frosted. So that kind of separates me and makes me a little different. And then everything I make is homemade from scratch. I love just baking the cakes because it reminds me of being in the kitchen with my grandma and my mom and aunts and stuff cooking and baking. And then I love meeting with brides and being able to be that special little thing at the end of the day after they had their wedding and everything and they get cut into it and have that little special moment between the bride and the groom. A lot of people that appeal to Naked Cakes are people who don't really So and sometimes there can be fillings Growing up with my grandmother and my mother and my aunts and my sister we'd all bake and cook together in the kitchen and especially for holidays It's just I love spending those moments with my family and just learning all these things from generation to generation. Especially my great grandma. Her name is Maxine and she had the best and ever pie crust. Everybody just, And so it was handed down to my mother and my aunt and then my mother handed it down to me. And so every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas, Grandma's apple pie, grandma's cherry pie and it has to have that crust. It's just that flaky sweet. It's just perfect. It's just getting to meet couples and or whether that be for birthday parties, anniversaries, just those special moments is,
