Bridgid makes cakes. After graduating from Virginia Tech and moving to North Carolina, Bridgid spent years in the restaurant business. Using the knowledge and experience she had from managing restaurants and consulting restaurant owners on how to maximize their business she decided it was time to do it for herself. Her talent and love for baking was the perfect venue for starting her own company. She is now the owner and operator of Cakes by B's Blue House Bakery! Fresh scratched baked goodies, locally roasted coffee and espresso, and custom cakes are always available!
It's a bakery focused not only on the sweet trees that they create, but their community too. In today'small Business Spotlight, Fox 8's Tyler Hardin takes us to Cakes by Bees, Blue House Bakery in Jamestown. In the heart of downtown Jamestown, you'll find a little blue house. Hey, how are you? Good. And inside is Cakes by Bees, Blue House Bakery. The bee stands for Bridget Murphy. We do everything from scratch. She and her family are behind the freshly made snacks, coffee and sweet treats. She admits some of the items were tricky to perfect. So croissants, puff pastry, I thought, no way. That scares me. I'm not doing it. It's really labor intensive. It's one of our biggest sellers now. Bridget was known for baking delicious cakes out of her home kitchen, so in 2016 she took this 1800s house and turned it into her very own bakery. The floodgates opened. Everybody came out and just thanked us. It was beyond our expectations to be thanked for opening a business. It was amazing. A mistake became one of the most popular treats. Let's call it a what the heck? What the heck, right? Oh my goodness, it's one of our biggest sellers now. It's But for her, it's not all about having a sweet tooth. Over time, we've gotten to know people and it's really an extended family at this point. We know names. We know their favorites. Their kids are growing up with us. She even has baking classes for the little ones in the s It's an idea that's helped her business stay afloat during the pandemic. Pandemic was definitely a lesson in patience and learning to operate outside of the box. And that's helping more people fulfill a sweet craving. Tyler Hardin, Fox 8 News.
