Velvet Cravings

Let's just get right to it. Bacon is good on just about everything, but more and more, we're seeing bacon on desserts, milkshakes, donuts, and here in the Magic City, even cupcakes. So for this week's Magic City Eats and Treats, I meet with Antonia, who owns Velvet Cravings, and we make one of these unusual, but delicious bacon desserts. MUSIC We're going to make maple bacon cupcakes. Awesome, let'start. We have a maple, it's a maple bacon versus maybe a hickory smoked or an apple wood. Bake it, cr It becomes candied bacon, so it belongs on a cupcake and not a breakfast platter. Breakfast, yeah. Now for the batter. It's her traditional recipe, all fresh ingredients, all at room temperature, and then comes the bacon. You want to have the texture and the crunch in there, but you don't want to be And now 100% pure maple syrup. It is pretty awesome. MUSIC So how long did it take you to perfect this cupcake as a recipe? It took me a while. It took me a little while. But I sure wouldn't mind being the guinea pig because it gets a taste test this. So at this point we want to pop them in the oven. Top it off with maple buttercream frosting and you can absolutely not forget the candied bacon. Here's your maple bacon cupcake.
