Austin's coffee has been a hub for artists in Winter Park for close to two decades. Has it always been set up Yeah, this is a galley style setup. It always has been. I mean, I would dream it a little different. I would have done the counter. Yeah, because Countless poetry nights, stand up shows and musical performances have been hosted here. The art painted across the walls reflecting so many of those who have passed through. New Bandit. He used to be our poetry host, one of our originally original poetry hosts. What a name. Yep. Jackie Oswald Moore, one of the owners, told me everything has been going great until recently. Next thing Austin's is in a section of Winter Park. The city is looking to buy up and remodel. We've seen plans for a parking lot plans for a green space plans for a parking lot. Plus they need a turn lane. The plan is still in its early stages, but if completed would force Austin's out. How do you move walls that are painted by dead artists over the past few weeks and online movement to save Austin's coffee has gained traction. So much so that dozens of people attended Wednesday's City Commission meeting to voice their opposition. I think it would be as many people have said, incredibly short-sighted to destroy such an important place. Some commissioners do support keeping Austin's, but Jackie told me she'still wary.
