And a little bit local bakeries all across Northeast Wisconsin are baking up a storm this morning getting ready to sell tens of thousands of jelly and custard filled creations for the annual tradition of Fat Tuesday and NBC 26 and Brook Haves is live out at Smirava's country bakery this morning with an inside look. Brooke. I almost called it a donut, but it's not a donut Haley. I have a couple corrections for you. First of all, it'smirava's correct And poonski. So now we have the debate settled this morning. Were arguing is it punchy is it poonski? Well, poonski, Is that correct? Yes, it is So it's a busy day. There's workers everywhere and most of these are your relatives. Yes I've got a lot of family and friends that take time off from their regular jobs and come in and help us I'll get it through this busy day. That's awfully nice. Now. You're gonna show me how to fry up these amazing things here We have some kind of the raw dough in a ball here. Show me what to do. Well, we've got the dough here. It's rested It's proofed. It's ready to go. So we're gonna take it over. We're gonna set it in the fryer And a punch key it's different from a regular donut because it takes a little longer to fry So we're gonna turn these are ready to go And we'll rotate these over and then Once they fry long enough on this side probably about two minutes Then they'll be ready to come out and the tail one of the telltale differences between a punch key and a regular donut is the wide white band on the outside it fries a little longer Because of the extra butter sugar and eggs in the dough looks absolutely delicious And what's the next step after we get done frying these they're gonna get rolled in the sugar They're granulated sugar and then they go to the filling station where they get packed With jams and french creams and custards. All right, so these don't have filling in them right now. Nope. Nope They are plain and then we fill them after they're fried. All right, hailey. These look pretty good We'll bring you on to that next station coming up in a little bit. All right, looking forward to that as well Of them sure as everyone is at home. Thank you so much brook Coming up after
