employees at a popular local bakery are one step closer to unionizing. The United Food and Commercial Workers Local Union 328 says dozens of seven-stars bakery employees sign letters. 12 News Reporter Brittany Schaefer spoke to two of those workers. She joins us now in studio with what they want out of the deal. It's new at five. Brittany? Well, Shannon, three seven-star bakery locations in Providence filed for union elections. Izzy Kossi works part time at the Hope Street spot and tells me she cannot get benefits and she can't get benefits and makes minim It started as a conversation at the Hope Street location about a year ago. Oh, everyone wants this. And then from there it was just a matter of getting the other stores on board. Now, three seven-stars bakery shops in Providence are pushing to be unionized. Barista Izzy Kossi was one of around 50 signatures on the letter to the company asking them to recognize United Food and Commercial Workers Local 328. The company is now working on the new product. If the request is denied, the locations will hold an election where employees will vote on whether or not to become unionized. Over 80 percent of employees have signed on. We want to see a really unified seven-stars because we know that it will make seven-stars better. Employees at both the Hope and Point Street location say their demands are reasonable. Better pay across the board, better pathway towards full-time employment for employees. Leading to the minim I shouldn't have to count on a customer wanting to tip me to make sure that I can put food on the table. CAUSY tells me full-time work at the bakery is hard to come by. Therefore, the majority of employees do not get benefits or vacation time. They are hoping production workers and the other two locations in R The push comes after hundreds of Starbucks locations across the nation and across the country. The Starbucks moment Just watching that wave across the country has been really inspiring. It only makes sense to want to build a better future for not just ourselves but our coworkers. In the baristas tell me if the process to unionize comes to a vote, they say employees will win at all three locations, making unionizing inevitable.
