Hacienda Miramonte - Costa Rica Located in the region of Naranjo-Alajuela, in Costa Rica, Hacienda Miramonte is known by the high quality coffee beans it produces, and its tradition in bean cultivation handed down from generation to generation. Closing in on a century of existence, the Hacienda had the first page of its beautiful history written by a woman that broke down the barriers of her time, and societies ways in search of her entrepreneurial ideal. With bravery and courage, the matriarch of the Gurdian’s family, Lucila Duval de Morales decided in 1917, to plant coffee. She acquired lands in the city of Heredia, and built a well-structured, prosperous plantation. This coffee farm represents the finest beans produced in Costa Rica. The matriarch's love for coffee, added to the quality of her product, made Hacienda Miramonte a legendary place. Her work, dedication and determination was handed down to future generations. She set an example that inspired her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Today, Lucila’s great-grandson, Ricardo Gurdian, is in charge of the management of Hacienda Miramonte, running the plantation with the same diligence and passion for coffee with which his ancestor started. Ricardo’s focus, and forward thinking for progressive, and alternative processes that refine the product quality, respect the environment, and the community, help deliver the richest best possible flavor of our beans. In the early days of coffee plantation people where given tokens in exchange for money, that where traded in once a week. One of the very first designs for Hacienda Miramonte was Willows token. Being this one the favorite among all. Obviously becoming the symbol of our brand. Coffee production works at the highest levels of efficiency. Protocols are in place for sustainability on all levels. This traceability, as well as its focus, adds to the continuous care and respect for nature, and the achievement of certifications are acquired easier. These seals ensure good agricultural practices and product quality. Rainforest Alliance, UTZ and Starbucks C.A.F.E. Practices certify the Hacienda. The tradition of Hacienda Miramonte remains as strong as its coffee plantation. The example of its founder is handed down once more, to a new generation. Ricardo Gurdian now counts on the support of his daughter Viviana Gurdian, in moving the plantation forward. The fifth generation of Hacienda Miramonte follows the path of love and dedication with coffee in the same way as their ancestors. Today, our aim is to keep up with the ever-growing global challenges, without forgetting the care for nature, and the people providing their services. Our desire is to ensure that the next chapters are written with the same beauty as the prologue to our history.
