On the day restaurant doors reopened to diners in Miami Dade, David's Cafe in Miami Beach opens its doors for the last time. CBS four's Brooke Schaefer reports. After 42 years, a sign in the window of this baby blue building is the final message to customers of David's Cafe, the restaurant on Miami Beach closing its doors after more than four decades. Unfortunately, Cafe owner Adrian Gonzalez, his parents started the family business back in 1977. His mom joining him back inside the South Beach Cuban restaurant for its last day. One of the hardest calls was calling my mother to tell her that the restaurant unfortunately is going to have to close. Gonzalez called it the end of a chapter recently struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic, even with restaurants now allowed to seat people inside at 50% capacity. Gonzalez said it's not enough. Difficult news for loyal customers. Many of them stopping by the restaurants Ventanita one last time. We disappointed David's a landmark on South Beach. It's heartbreaking. Jerry Goldstein said he's been coming to the restaurant every day for almost 40 years. I've been on the beach over 60 years. I've been coming to David's for 40 years. Let'say as for what's next, the owner told me he hopes maybe once the worst of the pandemic is done, they can reopen the restaurant in a new location.
