In 1894, the Pennsylvania Railroad built a new train depot in Urbano, Ohio. Inside were a ticket office, bathroom, central fireplace, and separate waiting rooms, one for men and another for women and children. After the depot closed, it became the home to various businesses. Finally, the city purchased the old station, refurbished it, and leased it to the Simon Kenton Pathfinders in 2006 who wanted to use it for a rest area along a rail trail. The following year the organization leased the depot to a local family for use as the depot coffee house. You can order your favorite coffee drink while relaxing in this historical structure. But they also serve great food, so you can enjoy a breakfast croissant or a hot pressed panini for lunch. If you want to be entertained or show off your own talents, they have open mic nights as well. Sadly, too many historical depots or sitting empty along the tracks, or worse, have been raised. Fortunately, the Pennsylvania Railroad depot in Urbano has been saved and is housing a vibrant business. So the next time you want to take a drive, head to Urbano, enjoy a piece of history, and have the friendly staff of the coffee house depot make one of your favorite coffee drinks. It's just one more fun thing you can do as you're traveling around Ohio.
