And there's the music. It's food to go time. And in this segment, we're crossing the street from the historic Haleiva Gym to a health-conscious cafe that is serving up some tasty grinds and drinks. Yes, we're talking about the Beatbox Cafe. And join us this morning with all the ono details is Marlis Mence, owner of the Beatbox Cafe. Yes, it's a pleasure to have you. I'm going to tell us a little bit more about the Beatbox Cafe. So tell me, how did Well, the start's kind of funny. About 13 years ago, I started delivering burritos on the North Shore and finally got a job at a restaurant in the back of the health food store and learned how to cook the line. And then once he moved out, I was asked to put in a restaurant and the next cafe was created. And it all came from that burrito that I was serving on the beach. So it's pretty funny. And then four years later, we moved next door to the next to the post office and it's been a pretty awesome journey. We're turned 10 years this year, so we're pretty stoked. That's fantastic. The Beatbox Cafe all started with one burrito. Good on you Marlis. One burrito. That's fantastic. So speaking of the food, let's get to what's offered over there. So tell me, what do you offer your customers at the Beatbox Cafe and what are some of the local favorites that people Yeah, sure. Well, we're a vegetarian vegan restaurant. We offer gluten free foods. We serve breakfast lunch every day. So we do really nice, healthy breakfast and lunch. We do acai bowls, smoothies, fresh juices, fresh baked goods, a lot of vegan and gluten free baked goods, local coffee. Yeah, we have our most popular dish, I'd say, is the Hello Burger, which is a homemade beef, or sorry, beef patty, beef patty, a beef patty. Super popular. It's called Hello Burger. We have the healthy plate of food, which is a saute of veg served with rice and beans. Our burrito babe, which is the burrito I used to sell on the beach, is a Thai curry burrito loaded with veggies and peanut sauce and coconut milk. And that's one of the most popular items as well. And that's called the Burrito Bay, which is kind of fun. And the Mexicali Blues, we do serve eggs for non-vigitarians. And yeah, we've got great bowls and just lots of. . . And here we are, we're seeing some beautiful pictures from the Beatbox Cafe. Lots of great drinks. And I definitely tried the burrito and it's definitely delicious. And I didn't realize how much energy you get from it. So I had it after a surf, grinded it, and then went back right out to surf because lots of high-energy food. So things are looking pretty good. Tell me, you do have some specials over the weekend. Tell us a little bit about that. We do. They're always rotating. I let my chefs decide what they want to make for the weekend. The most recent's been a homemade focaccia, or focaccia with curry with vegetables on top. It's been amazing. And then we do fresh sourdough out of the Jalila Cafe every weekend for people to buy.
