Man, roasting has been an adventure. It can be very overwhelming, and it did overwhelm me for a while, but I just realized that if I can just take each coffee and roast it to the best of my ability, then the more coffees I roast, the more batches I do, the more time I stand in front of that machine, the better it's going to get. My name is Trey Woods, and my wife and I, Mallory, are co-owners Hope Oak and Coffee Roasters in Guthrie, Oklahoma. It was mainly my wife's dream, so from the day we met, we pretty much started brainstorming and planning and saving. Took a trip out to Oregon for a year to kind of see what life was One of the big things we took away from our trip to Oregon was coffee roasting. So before the roasting side of the business wasn't really on our radar, we just wanted to do a cafe. People were People want diner coffee in Guthrie. It's They'll come in and support it, and that's what blew us away. They've been more supportive than we could have imagined. I mean, we wouldn't be friends with some of these people that are in their 40s and 50s that have been here their whole lives, but we've gotten to know them because they come in every day. We get to serve them coffee and hear what's going on. I can't go a block without b Keep it local was a no-brainer because we had experienced it as customers, and we wanted to honestly associate ourselves with the businesses that are already a part of it. So we offer a free drink, any free drink, if you buy a bag of coffee. That way they get to be introduced, maybe persuaded slightly to take home coffee and start learning how to brew it at home. We want to build something that is lasting, and I think that our generation is on board with that. We talk to this person every morning, and we talk to this person every morning, but they don't know each other. So they're It makes our community even tighter. People are doing it, and we want to be a part of it.
