ongoing construction is presenting a challenge for a coffee shop in Davenport. Java cafe is facing yet another in a string of setbacks they've seen over the past few years. TV6's Wafa as it has details on how the cafe is coping with this latest obstacle Wafa. Owners of Java have seen their share of challenges over the past six years from floods to the pandemic they've faced at all. Now the construction project along East River Drive is testing the resilience once again. This is usually our busy season and this is really killing us here. Java cafe along East River Drive in Davenport is grappling with a significant drop in sales due to ongoing road construction that is expected to last until July. On a normal good busy day we're doing 900 to a thousand dollars a day and we've been down to three Staff say sales are down by staggering 60 percent compared to the same time last year making it difficult for the cafe to sustain its operations. The owners have just been working a lot themselves to keep down on cost since they don't have a lot to pay the employees right now. That's a lot while With road construction impacting their sales and operations they're exploring new avenues to keep their business going. Well in April when they close this side of the road at the end of April is what were told you won't be able to pull in at all so we're gonna get out the Java truck. We will be out and about we will be posting locations on Facebook about where we're at. Despite the challenges staff say they're grateful for their customers constant support. After we posted it we had an amazing day with sales so hopefully we can keep up with that. We just thank everyone who can get down here and make their way through the construction while they can. Hopefully we can keep it up until we can get the truck out. And to draw more traffic to the cafe they will have a cat adoption event this Saturday April 7th from 9 a. m. to 12 p. m. where customers looking to adopt a cat might be able to take one home with a cup of coffee.
