Local students use lessons that they're learning in the classroom to help a popular business keep its doors open. We told you earlier this month the Bahama snow in Javad-a-Go in Badatat has to relocate to make way for a new sheets gas station. Tendu's reporter Lesla Gooden joins us in the studio. In Lesla, you spent the day in school as the shop class at BTEC built a new version of that signature shack. For Ann John, these kids are really sharp. Call it a class project with real world results. Badatat Technical Education Center students are lending a hand by helping Brent build a brand new structure and they're cramming to finish this year's final exam. For nearly 20 years, Jenna Bell has been serving sweet treats here at the Bahama snow in Javad-a-Go. Next Friday, she will move to a new location and building thanks to the help of her community. It's wonderful. I feel Earlier this year, Bell was told she would have to make way for a gas station and it'd eat $15,000 to meet the necessary permits and requirements to move. That's when friends, longtime customers and a group of ambitious students stepped up. I've managed a bunch of projects in my life which is fun for me but never one without any money and without any time. Bell has raised over $12,000 thanks to the community. She has also received special assistance from the students at Badatat Technical Education Center. The building trades class will be constructing a brand new Bahama snow in Javad-a-Go building with a bathroom, something the popular business didn't have before. They're doing it for a learning experience but also part of giving back to the community is a big portion of what I want the students to take out. Semis tells me the average cost for a structure This project totals over $4,000 including pl They even waived the shop fee for Bell. One of the 11 students working on the project tells me he's just glad to help. I feel pretty good about working on it. It's doing something for the community and I can drive down the road and say that I had a part in helping building that. In the meantime, Bahama snow in Javad-a-Go will remain open until next Friday where the current shop will be moved just down the road near Lord Badatat High School.
