Hi, my name is Susie and I'm a local realtor that loves to help our community members by highlighting some of the small businesses in our area and is a way to help support them. We want to keep our small businesses not only alive but thriving and I know with your help and with your help we're going to be able to do that. Today we're going to be speaking with Matthew, he's the owner of Zola's here in Auburn and it is a great coffee house that also serves breakfast and lunch. It's located on East Main. Now let's go get a cappuccino and warm up and go meet Matthew. Alright, Absolutely. I'm so happy to be talking with Matthew today. He's another shining example of Auburn born and raised success story. Why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself, about Zola's and what extra precautions you're taking here to make sure everyone is safe. So I grew up in Auburn. I went to college, I got a sales job and didn't So I picked culinary school and quit my job and moved to New York and went to the French Culinary Institute. So since then I did 14 years of fine dining and then got burnt out of all the demands of being a chef. So then I spent the last four years working on the Microsoft campus as a corporate chef. I was on vacation in Arizona on a golf trip and to watch the Husky football game and the guy that lives next door is a friend of my brother's and he mentioned to me that this place Zola's might be up for sale. I looked into it and about four months later I was the owner of Zola's. Wow, very impressive res So what are you doing here at Zola's to make sure during the pandemic that everyone is taking care of super safe? Yep, so masks are required for sure. We sanitize the pens that they write with and the counters, take our temperatures when we get in. The employees, all four of us, You can pay over the phone with your credit card, do curbside or take out. Very nice. Along with that, so what are your current hours, maybe the best way for people to order and how do we find out about upcoming events? Best place to look is our Facebook page for upcoming events. I just did an event last Friday which Susie partake in. It was date night in your car. That was the plan and then we also did to go for people that wanted to not eat in their car. It was a four course out meal. It's a little bit more upscale than what I normally do at Zola's because I knew how many people I was cooking for and all that. So next one will be Valentine's Day and I think I'm going to do a pretty French menu. I do a vegan menu. We have a little niche for doing a little bit of vegan food, vegetarian and gluten free stuff. So we did not partake in the vegan menu but we did have the other one and y'all it was amazing. Okay. Lastly then Matthew, I know that you purchased Zola's right at February 2020 Can you tell us a little bit about what the community support has meant to you? Everything. They're awesome.
