When you look at Roberta Serrano today, you may never know just how hard her and her family had it. While she hands out food today, she can't help but remember pushing Stroller down the street with her young son in it with nowhere to go. She wanted better for him and for herself, and now she's close to getting there. It's all about Indian homelessness, not managing it. Serrano found Helpings Cafe in the Here it's all about food with a purpose. Helpings Cafe provides job training to become a barista or cashier and learn about customer service. Some have never been employed, some of them have not finished their high school diploma, they don't have good work history, and those are the things that we work on individually with them. And along with job training, there's also a grocery store. Now these shelves may be empty now, but come Monday they'll be full of fresh food, giving everyone access to healthy options. Mayor Greg Stanton says not only is this good for the people involved, but the city of Phoenix as a whole. Boy, look, first off, the cafe itself, it's beautiful. It rivals any coffee shop in town. And as mayor, I spend a lot of time in coffee shops. I do a lot of meetings outside the office. I love it. But to Serrano, it's more than just a coffee shop.
