Everybody should celebrate the day that they were born. And if you can't, someone should do it for you. That's what a local bakery in Berea believes, especially the children in the foster care system. Here's how Three Girls Cupcake Shop is making sure every kid has cake on their birthday. I'm a firm believer in everybody should have cake on their birthday. That's Maria Brenders, owner of Three Girls Cupcake Shop in Berea. You see, she's big on birthdays. I make a big deal about my own children's birthdays. Everybody should celebrate the day that they were born. And if you can't do that, somebody should do that for you. She's taken her love for birthdays and baking and found a way to give back to those who may not get a chance to celebrate their special day. Every month, Maria and her shop donate custom cupcakes to the foster children of Ohio Guidestones Main Campus in Berea. We started out with 40 children. It has never gone down. It's only steadily gone up. And we are at 50 kids right now. The children who have a birthday in that month receive a specially decorated cupcake. But all the children that are in their care receive a cupcake. And today is pickup day. Since last fall, Maria's donated hundreds of cupcakes to the foster care program to children ages six to 18. Just seeing their faces light up was, it was something I hadn't experienced. No matter what age they are, they love it. They could be 16 and they get a dinosaur on their cupcake and they're And while these cupcakes are a small, sweet gesture of kindness, they're making a big impact, making sure foster children never feel forgotten, even on their special day. Maria is such an incredible person. She shared with me that she's turning her pain into purpose. Her husband actually took his own life back in 2017. Her children have been in Ohio Guidestone Therapy Services for six years now. And she says this organization has helped to save her children's lives. And she realizes that she's got this amazing platform to be able to give those sweet treats to kids who really deserve to feel special. Yeah. On their birthday. Yeah, we agree. We think of the kids who are in the foster system without that stability, without sometimes the family that they left around, just that small gesture of somebody cares about you. Here's a little slice of normal seed. Yeah, that kind of thing that they can receive from getting that cupcake. What a wonderful thing that she's doing.
