On-Board Wheel Balancers for Trucks
The purpose of today's video is to show you how the Centromatic Balancer operates. First, we're going to take a miniature tire and wheel to mimic the actual rotation of a tire wheel going down the road. We're going to start by putting this small electric motor, we'll run this up to speed. You can notice this assembly is a little bit out of balance. Not too bad. We'll stop it. I'm going to place it severely out of balance with this magnet. I'll run it again up to speed once again. You can notice now we've got an assembly that'severely out of balance. Stop it again. I'm going to place a balancer on this assembly. You can notice this particular balancer is built with steel ball bearings. The actual product has a hard and lead alloy called Duramell, 90,000 in diameter, 10 times harder than normal lead. The dampening fluid we use for our demo ring is a clear fluid, however the fluid and the actual balancers are synthetic molly. I'll place this on and in a moment when I run this up to speed, you can spot these ball bearings much easier than you can the actual media. That's why we use that. Now run it up to speed. You can see now this assembly is in perfect balance. Notice how smoothly it's turning. Now I'm going to take a strobe light and freeze frame this so that you can actually see the positions of everything. With the assembly freeze framed using the strobe light, you can notice now the magnet is at the bottom. Notice how the media of the ball bearings are opposite to offset the imbalance. Now you can see the assembly in motion perfectly balanced. This truck can be right to smooth itself down the road. Now I'm going to stop it and remove the magnet. Just imagine if this was a piece of mud, snow or ice causing your imbalance. You'll notice how the balancer can automatically and instantly compensate. We'll run it back up to speed. You'll notice once again this assembly is in perfect balance. I'm going to freeze frame it again. Once again we've got the balancer in still motion. You can see how the media has spread evenly around the ring putting this assembly once again in perfect balance. This is how simple and reliable the Centromatic Balancer operates.
