Helping people use bicycles.
We are on the go this morning and teaming up with the Northeast Ohio Area-wide Coordinating Agency to shine a spotlight on businesses that champion clean eco-friendly transportation. Last year's top honors went to the Ohio City Bicycle Co-op, so we checked it out. The Ohio City Bicycle Co-op is a lot of things, but overall what we do that in a variety of ways. Those ways include a retail storefront where bikes and accessories are sold. But the Co-op also offers education programs and training. Executive Director Eric Anderson says it also has a pay what you can program. Anything to give community members fair access to transportation. Having access to a bicycle, having access to transportation options in Cleveland is very important. You have a lot of folks who don't necessarily have access to conventional forms of transportation So a lot of people in the greater Cleveland area use multi-modality. Last year the Co-op was the gold winner of NOACA's Commuter Choice Awards, which it takes great pride in. We'really excited to be here and be recognized for the Commuter Choice Award because the work we do isn't, We're encouraging everyone to explore multi-modality and other forms of transportation. Anderson says cycling can be a financially and environmentally reasonable way to commute in to get around the city. And the Co-op wants to get everyone on the bike who wants a ride. It doesn't have to be as complicated as people make it. It doesn't have to be a $2,000 bicycle, And if you're not sold on cycling just yet, there's another benefit to riding a bike. It's good for your heart health. It's good for your body and it's good for your mind. And the Commuter Choice Awards is once again looking for participants this year. Slogan is Join the Movement. Commute for a Better Tomorrow. The competition runs throughout the month of August. Winners will be announced sometime in December.
