Golden Shears has been a staple barber shop in Bloomington for nearly 70 years. The shop, located on the corner of Third & Jordan, has held its same location since its opening back in 1946. After taking over Golden Shears in 1986, Fred R Well, about 27 years of service. Over the years, I've built up, everybody knows me, everybody knows my work, and keeps coming back for the same thing every time. Fred's partner, Teresa Kolanick, is a fourth generation barber, and she says it's a privilege to not only work in the shop, but carry on her family tradition. It means a lot because I feel And I'm carrying on a tradition that I can share with other people, and it just makes me feel really proud. Teresa saw success in a barber shop at an early age, and she credits the success of Golden Shears to the friendly atmosphere, the good relationships she has with Fred and her clients, and the years of experience both bring. Here's your hand, Fred. Appreciate it. Fred's my best friend, and it's laid back. No drama, this is a lot of fun talking and conversation. Real. I tell people that, I provided a good living for me and my family, met a lot of good friends, a lot of interesting people from the school, people from all over the world, as designated by my mirror. Just interesting from day to day. Over the years, Fred has gotten to know some big names on campus, including legendary basketball PA announcer Chuck Crabb, former basketball coach, the general Bob Knight, and even Jared, that guy from Subway.
