David Silva & Barber Co.

A native Houstonian trained in Italy’s finest tradition of barbery in the heart of Milan, David is a skilled craftsman and hair science enthusiast.

When I was at university in Rome, one of the most memorable experiences I had was visiting my barber. It was a place that when I entered, I exited the outside world. And in that space, I could leave myself in the hands of a professional, a trained eye, an interpreter of my needs. One who helped stop the time. After graduating from university, I came home to Houston. I was interviewing for various jobs, but nothing was really settling. I couldn't find the path that seemed to be fit for me. I remember also being frustrated because I couldn't find a barber The same practice just wasn't being done here. So I bought a pair of scissors, razor, and a comb, thinking I would just cut my own hair. Instead one day, my brother came home from a rather lopsided haircut and he asked me if I still had those scissors and if I could fix it for him. And with a sort of internal confidence, I just thought, of course, I had such a clear visual memory of what my barbers used to do in Italy that I just supplied it. The gestures of my hands felt natural and fluid. I knew what I was doing. My brother the day after, provoked by the quality of my work, asked me if I'd ever thought about doing this professionally. And in that moment, something resonated deeply that maybe I had found my calling in a craft. I grew up always more inclined to the handcrafted. I was a sketch artist, an impressionist. I could reproduce the things that I've seen. Sooner than I could have imagined, talking to people about this potential path, I started to actually gain customers and more confidence in what I had to offer. I started assisting at a salon and it became concrete in my soul that this was my calling. Since then, for years, I've been journeying back to Italy to be trained and guided by some of the greatest masters of this trade. And at present day, many people are entrusting me with their look and oftentimes much more. I try to offer a place for their h A place where the Italian barber experiences I know it is alive and well at the service of those who come to enjoy it. Time is not really of the essence when you walk in here. It's a place where you can expect to be suspended in time. Almost a place where things don't really matter from the out there. So you come inside and you're able to dedicate a moment that is truly for you. And I hope that gives you a sense of relaxation and fulfillment at the end of each appointment.
