Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Aya Gullel shows us the powerful difference that this new business is making. Welcome to Love Lara Bakery where there's plenty of delicious pastries on the menu. Cookies, muffins, cupcakes, brownies. The Bakery on Washington Avenue in North Haven opened in June and has a very special mission, employing and empowering adults of all abilities. It's very difficult for people with special needs to find meaningful work and that's what we wanted to provide. Carol Asperalli's daughter Lara has epilepsy. Carol retired from teaching early to get the bakery business started. Oh it's been going very well. People are so supportive. And Lara is passionate about her work. I also And she also enjoys working alongside her friend Stephen. They're great coworkers. Fast. While COVID delayed the bakery's opening, it gave Stephen and Lara a chance to perfect their recipes. Probably one of my favorite sweets is the famous Stephen's Flamin' Chaldeau cookies. A huge sour everyday at the bakery. And they're named after me, of course. And customers They're just Every, they want to be useful. They want to be self-employed. They want to be independent. As the business grows, the hope is to hire more adults of all abilities.
